Following the successful delivery of 40 tons of high-grade aid supply early last week, the charity organization Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen e.V. (LOG) / Wings of Help prepares to send another load of supply to the hard-hit people of Haiti. Approximately 400 tons of aid, or four jumbo cargo planes, loaded with sixteen 40-foot containers, will be sent to Haiti. This special delivery includes baby food, potable water, medical supply, medicine, blankets and other items necessary for survival.
"Cooperation with the International Medical Corps (IMC)"
During the previous aid delivery, having the International Medical Corps (IMC), as a local partner, proved to be very helpful. Therefore, LOG will again carry out this upcoming mission in cooperation with them. IMC is a global, humanitarian organization that is currently operating a 700 bed hospital, providing emergency medical care and treatment to the earthquake victims in Port-au-Prince. Due to the conditions in Haiti, a direct transport to Port-au-Prince is still not possible. Therefore, the aid delivery will be processed through Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. The containers will then be transported by truck to the capital, where the supply of both LOG and IMC is stored.
Interplast - President Dr. André Borsche with LOG in action
The president of Interplast-Germany eV, Dr. André Borsche, will accompany the aid transport to Haiti. At request of the "Humani Terra" organization, Dr. Borsche will perform urgent surgery in Port-au-Prince. Until now, he will be the only doctor able to perform reconstructive surgery.
Great readiness in Germany allows LOG Help
The additional LOG aid transport was made possible only because of the great generosity and dedication of numerous institutions and companies. These include the employees of EADS, Deutsche Flugsicherung (German air traffic control), the German-Haitian society, Schenker AG Germany, Hassia, Rhönsprudel, Coppenrath Feingebäck and many others. Also noteworthy is the readiness of so many individual donors. Some for example, dedicated birthdays for this good cause, and the height of the carnival season, even the jesters all remember that despite all the fun, the suffering must never be forgotten.
